Support on the postnatal ward

During your stay you may meet several health professionals, their job roles are summarised below. If you require any assistance while on the ward please press your call buzzer, we are more than happy to help.

MidwifeImage of a midwife's uniform. Dark Blue tunic with white trimmed collar, sleeve and pocket.You will be cared for by a midwife during your whole stay on the postnatal ward. The midwife will be caring for you and 8 other families.
Support Workers Image of a maternity support worker's uniform. Light blue tunic with white trimmed sleeve.    Support workers will be available on the ward supporting the midwives with your care.
They will be visiting your bay or bed regularly on “care and comfort rounds.”
Student Midwife  Image of a student midwife's uniform. White tunic with blue trimmed collar and sleeve.As Worcestershire Royal is a teaching hospital, often a student midwife will be working alongside your midwife to provide your care.
DoctorImage of a doctor's uniform. Dark Blue t shirt style scrub.  If you and your baby are well, you may not see a doctor on the postnatal ward. However, midwives can request a doctor to come and see if required.  
Specialist Midwife  Image of a specialist midwife's uniform. Dark Blue tunic with white trimmed collar, sleeve and pocket.Depending on your care plan you may be seen by a specialist midwife, such as a diabetic midwife or an infant feeding midwife.
Physiotherapist  Image of a physiotherapist's uniform. White tunic with blue trimmed collar, sleeve and pocket.Physiotherapists are present on the ward and will visit you to show you a range of helpful exercises including pelvic floor exercises.
Hearing Screener  Image of a Hearing Screener's uniform. Pale green tunic with white trim on the sleevesHearing Screeners offer the newborn hearing test for your baby before you’re discharged. They are on the ward daily.
Cleaner  Image of a cleaner's uniform. Blue/grey tunic with dark blue trimmed collar and sleeves.Cleaners will be present on the ward throughout your stay and will visit your bay or room daily to ensure the area is clean.
Ward Clerk   Image of a ward clerk's uniform. Dark Blue blouse with green patterns.The Ward clerk is located at the front desk or midwives’ station. They may come and see you at your bedside to confirm your address and GP details before going home.
