Where people come first

At Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAHT), we’re focused on what really counts: people. The people we care for. The people we work with. And the person you are.

From Worcester to Redditch to Kidderminster, our hospitals serve thousands of people across Worcestershire and beyond. Operating from three key sites the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre and  Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

We’re a team of over 8,000 people, each bringing compassion, skill, and dedication to every patient, every shift, every day.

And while we’re large enough to offer real variety and opportunity, we’re small enough for you to feel seen, supported, and part of something.

Living our values every day

At Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, our values aren’t just words: they guide how we care for our patients, support our colleagues, and grow together as a team.

  • Being open and honest
  • Ensuring people feel cared for
  • Showing respect to everyone

These values shape our behaviour across our wards, clinics and teams, and create a culture where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

When Dr Reshma Singh joined our Acute Medicine team, she brought international experience and a clear sense of purpose in patient care. For her, joining the Trust after moving countries meant stepping into a welcoming, collaborative community that helped her grow, both  personally and professionally:

“Transitioning to the UK from a completely different background, culture, and country wasn’t easy, but I found the right people who helped shape who I am today.”

That sense of belonging and purpose is echoed across our Trust. Dr Clare Toro found a team who live these values every day:

“I was welcomed into a supportive work family that genuinely cares about each other. I was constantly supported by everyone in the team who wanted to see me succeed.”

We believe in acting with kindness and compassion—not just in how we care for patients, but in how we care for each other. It’s about taking the time to listen, offering support when it’s needed, and appreciating the contribution everyone makes.

“Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust fosters an inclusive and supportive environment. I transitioned from Trinidad and Tobago, and while it was a change in culture and lifestyle, the team here has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. The focus on wellbeing at the Trust, both physical and mental, is another reason why working here is so rewarding.  If you’re looking to join a Trust that values its staff, supports professional development, and offers a positive and inclusive working environment, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is the place to be.”

“Working in the Emergency Department at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital has been an incredibly rewarding experience. From the moment I joined, I was welcomed into a supportive work family that cares about each other’s wellbeing. There is a shared sense of purpose, as every member of the team works together to provide the best possible care for our patients. The department has a fantastic team spirit, where everyone from senior doctors to nursing staff is always ready to collaborate and support one another.
I have received outstanding support, both professionally and personally, from an exceptional team of mentors, colleagues, and supervisors who are genuinely invested in my success.

Shared learning, that moves us forward

As a member of the Foundation Group partnership, we’re connected to a wider network of NHS trusts; George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust, South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust and the Wye Valley NHS Trust.  This model, highlighted as best practice in national NHS England guidance, brings together over 20,000 staff to share learning, improve resilience, and drive innovation at pace.

The Foundation Group fosters an open learning culture where improvement is everyone’s business. Staff are encouraged to share ideas and lead change, supported by quarterly group-wide improvement events and a dedicated Improvement Week each year.

NHS Staff Survey 2024 results

At WAHT, we’re proud to uphold the principles of Our NHS People Promise—a national commitment to improving the experience of working in the NHS.

In the latest NHS Staff Survey, the results showed strong improvement across all seven People Promise themes, with scores at or above the national average.

Key highlights include excellent performance in ‘We work flexibly’ and ‘Morale’, surpassing national averages, as well as steady improvement in ‘We are safe and healthy’. More staff feel confident recommending this Trust as a great place to work, safe to speak up about concerns, supported to reach their full potential, and provided with the right learning and development opportunities.

These positive trends are reinforced by improvements in staff engagement and morale, reflecting the Trust’s commitment to listening and acting on staff feedback.

Demonstrating the strength of the Foundation Group model, in this year’s NHS Staff Survey all four trusts saw impressive ‘We are always learning’ theme scores, with overall improved results comparing favourably to the national average.

For staff at WAHT, being part of the Foundation Group means greater access to peer learning, development opportunities, and the ability to contribute to shared solutions that benefit patients and colleagues across the wider system.

Worcestershire, a place to call home

Worcestershire is a fantastic place to live and work. With plenty of green spaces, great transport links, and a vibrant cultural scene, it’s ideal for anyone seeking a great work-life balance.

In 2024, Worcestershire was named one of the best places to visit in the UK by Condé Nast, while Worcester secured its spot among the top ten places to live (The Telegraph).

Worcestershire offers a perfect blend of scenic countryside, waterways, and rich cultural heritage. The county is home to the magnificent Malvern Hills -a designated National Landscape (previously AONB)- and the expansive Wyre Forest, the largest woodland National Nature Reserve in the country.

Worcestershire is well connected, with easy access to major cities like Birmingham, Bristol, and London by road and rail, as well as nearby international airports, including Birmingham and Heathrow.

For many of our colleagues, including those who relocated internationally, Worcestershire has become more than just a place to work.

As Dr. Fabian Olisa, Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine said:

“My children are happily settled in school, just a two-minute drive from my workplace, and my wife also works within the same Trust. Worcestershire offers a good number of places to visit, as well as local shopping options.  Worcestershire has been more than just a place to work; it’s become a place to settle and grow, both personally and professionally.”

Whether you’re early in your career or making a fresh start, Worcestershire is a place where you can belong.
