Where every role matters

When 12-year-old Josh rang the End of Treatment Bell at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, it wasn’t just a sound—it was a celebration after more than three years of courage, determination, and world-class care.

Josh was just nine when he was diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoma. Since then, he’s had countless hospital visits, blood tests, scans, treatments, and check-ins. But behind every appointment, every step of his recovery, stood a team. Not just a team of doctors and nurses, but hundreds of dedicated individuals, each playing a vital role in his journey back to health.

From the paediatric nurses who reassured him, to the healthcare support workers who held his hand. The pharmacists who prepared his medications. The radiographers who captured his progress.

The digital teams who ensured his records were always up to date. The cleaners who kept his environment safe. The porters who helped move him from ward to ward. The admin teams who scheduled every appointment. The play specialists who helped him be a kid again, even in a hospital.

The Children’s Cancer Clinic staff even challenged him to a table tennis match on his last day, because Josh, now 12, has found a new passion: table tennis. They wore the gear. He brought the skills. And yes, he won.

Because here, we don’t just treat illness. We see people. We support each other. We work as one.

“It’s taken a whole team to support Josh every step of the way. From treatment to table tennis, we’ve been with him all the way”

— Dr Baylon Kamalarajan, Consultant Paediatrician
