What is a telephone call appointment?

Telephone call appointments are appointments that take place between a patient and a healthcare professional over the phone, as opposed to face-to-face or over a video call.

Telephone appointments are a safe and effective way to access care and allow you to have your appointment in a place that is convenient to you.

Having your appointment over the phone may save time and money as you will not need to travel to one of our hospitals.

How will I know when my telephone call appointment is?

Your appointment letter and reminder text message will have a scheduled date and time for the telephone call.

You do not need to attend the hospital or clinic in person for this.

What should I expect for my telephone call appointment?

We will phone you at the time specified in your letter and your appointment will begin. The appointment will follow a similar format as a face-to-face appointment.

You should ideally have a quiet space where you can speak to your healthcare professional privately.

If you are using your mobile phone, you should make sure your battery is charged and you are somewhere with a stable signal.

Sometimes, as with face-to-face appointments, there can be delays on the day, but we aim to phone you as close to your appointment time as possible.

What do I do if my telephone number has changed?

If your phone number has changed, please let us know by using the contact details on your outpatient letter.

On the day of your appointment

You might find it helpful to prepare some questions or write down a list of things you’d like to discuss during your appointment.
