Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of services over three hospitals sites, the Alexandra, Kidderminster and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

We’re committed to delivering medical services that deliver the best patient care and we recognise that our excellent medical staff are key in enabling and providing compassionate, patient centred care.

Medical and dental opportunities are available at all levels within the organisation, with Foundation, Core and Specialty training, Trust Junior and Senior Fellows, Specialty Doctor and Consultant grade posts.

Newly appointed Consultants to the Trust are provided with a senior consultant colleague as a Mentor to support your transition, and provided with a protected induction period for departmental orientation and familiarisation. During this time there will be an opportunity to discuss with senior colleagues how we can support or develop any areas of your clinical practice to ensure you can confidently perform duties of the role.

For our senior medical staff wishing to achieve their CCT for Consultant level posts, the Trust supports development of your portfolio for achieving a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).

With a medical relocation policy in place, doctors relocating to the area to take up a post will be able to obtain financial support.  Our overseas medical workforce will receive certificate of sponsorship and where required can offer maintenance grants for dependants to support your visa application.

Medical Education and Teaching Fellowships

The Trust is playing an increasingly important role in undergraduate medical education, and employs a number of Teaching Fellows to support the undergraduate teaching of medical students.

The planned opening of the 3 Counties Medical School in Worcester in 2023 will bring considerable opportunities to develop a career in medical education. In addition to becoming part of the faculty of undergraduate educators, there are opportunities for honorary appointments (at lecturer, senior lecturer or professorial level) with our partner medical schools.

Having recently launched an ambitious research strategy to double our activity in three years, many of our appointments are active Principal Investigators for international clinical trials, having built up an excellent reputation with academic and commercial sectors. With access to an active R&D department including a research nursing team and support staff, we are a partner of the Clinical Research Network West Midlands and host the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Research Consortium.

Other support for staff includes Freedom to Speak Up Champions, Guardian of Safe Working, SAS Tutor and Advocate, Appraisal and Revalidation Clinical Lead, LTFT Champion and SuppoRTT Champion for medics returning to clinical practice following a career break.
