Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust can confirm that a consultant colorectal surgeon has been excluded while an investigation is undertaken into his practice.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals commenced the investigation as soon as it became aware that there were concerns about his practice.  A multidisciplinary team is reviewing the medical records of all his patients.

Following the review we will contact anyone who requires further investigation and invite them back to the hospital for further assessment followed by investigation and treatment if required.

The Trust is co-operating with the Coroner and the GMC as part of the review.

The Trust would like to reassure patients and their relatives that as soon as it became aware there was a potential problem the Trust acted swiftly and responsibly to protect its patients.  It alerted the Royal College of Surgeons in June 2012 and asked them to review his professional standards.  While the review was ongoing the Trust put restrictions on the surgeon’s practice and ensured that he was supervised whilst operating.  He was excluded from the Trust in October 2012.
