A bumper month of babies and a brand new video tour have helped to celebrate the ‘relaunch’ of Meadow Birth Centre at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Meadow Birth Centre is a midwife-led unit offering a calm and relaxing environment for women with an uncomplicated pregnancy.

Due to the Covid pandemic and staff changes, the centre was sometimes unable to open to full capacity. However, with a dedicated midwifery team now back in place in the unit, February saw 33 babies born – the highest number since before the pandemic, and a trend the team are looking forward to continuing.

To show parents-to-be the fantastic facilities on offer, a new video tour of the unit has also been co-produced with Worcestershire Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership, showcasing the en-suite facilities in each of the four rooms, birthing pools, dimmable lighting, light features above the pools, Bluetooth speakers and the centre’s family room, as well as answering some of the frequently asked questions.

Aimee Brooks, Midwife and Meadow Birth Centre Team Leader at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted to ‘relaunch’ the beautiful Meadow Birth Centre. We’ve been really successful in recruiting for new midwives and we very much want everyone to know that we are fully open for business!

“Our aim is for all women to have a safe and positive experience of labour and birth wherever they choose to have their baby.

To celebrate the relaunch, midwives and wider maternity and neonatal staff also enjoyed tea and cakes and a chance to look round the unit.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust was awarded an improved ‘good’ CQC rating at the end of 2023, giving assurance to local families that the care provided at the Trust throughout their pregnancy journey is well led and to a good standard.
