We are proud to have an active Armed Forces Covenant Committee and Armed Forces Network at the Trust which strive to:

  • Stand together to provide fellow members with mutual support, guidance, and comradery
  • Lead the way with National, NHS, Armed Forces and Charity initiatives to provide a tailored approach to our Armed Forces Community Patients and Staff.
  • Ensure that we uphold our pledge to the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance and continue to be an exemplar of care provision to Veterans and their families.
  • Uphold our status as an Armed Forces Covenant Employer Scheme signatory, and to continue to provide opportunities for Service Leavers, Veterans and Members of the Armed Forces Community, as an employer.
  • Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award
    Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award

We are proud recipients of the Silver Award from The Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) Employer Recognition scheme.

This is a Ministry of Defence run scheme that rewards employers who support service personal and their families in finding employment, and/or employers that enable Reservists to serve alongside their employment.

This award was presented to the Trust at the National Memorial Arboretum in September 2023.

We advertise our vacant job roles with Career Transition Partnership and Forces Family Jobs. The aim of this is to bring members of the Armed Forces Community and the unique skills, military bearing, morals and adaptability they have into the Trust.

We are committed to championing the ethos of the AFC Employer Recognition Scheme - continuing to support the Armed Forces Community and pilot national employment initiatives such as ‘Step Into Health’.

We are proud to have supportive leave policies in place.

The Trust is committed to employing colleagues who are in the Reserve Forces and who may be subject to call up and mobilisation to areas of conflict.  We offer two working weeks paid leave for reservists to complete training or duty.

In addition to this, the Trust endeavours to provide support during any transition of mobilisation/deployment, this support is also extended to post mobilisation.

Where possible, the Trust will accommodate counselling provisions, flexibility with shift patterns/working hours at key times during deployment. This may be at the time of deployment or a return from tour of duty.

The Trust will support 5 days paid special leave per period of mobilisation/deployment (including post mobilisation).

  • Veteran Aware accreditation
    Veteran Aware accreditation

We are a ‘Veteran Aware Trust’ under the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance.

We continue to look for innovative new ways to ensure that we are providing the best service possible to our Armed Forces Community patients.

We offer support and signposting for vulnerable members of the Armed Forces Community and engage with charity partners to ensure that the right support finds the right people.

  • Armed Forces Network

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Armed Forces Network was founded in September 2023.

The network works hard to enrich the lives of Veteran and Armed Forces community staff and patients - from arranging flagpoles for each site, co-ordinating two minutes silences to mark Armistice Day, to leading the Trust on its journey to become ‘Veteran Aware’.

  • Defence Medical Support Worker

With grateful thanks to the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity and the Defence Welfare Service (a national charity), the Trust will host a Defence Medical Welfare Support Officer (DMWSO) from April 2024 until April 2026.

A DMWSO has full knowledge of the many and varied specific veteran support services on offer, and over a year will provide a welfare service for approximately 150 members of the military community per year and 300 additional beneficiaries.
