Our commitment to you

At Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, one of our core values is ‘Being open and honest‘; collaborating and learning from each other. Whether you’re just starting your career, newly qualified, or bringing years of NHS experience, we’re here to help you expand your skills, feel confident in your abilities, and move forward in your career.

We want to make sure you have plenty of opportunities to learn, develop, and grow. That’s why we work closely with local universities and offer a wide range of training and development, including specialist roles, professional development, and clinical education.

Continuous professional development is a key part of our support, whether through internal Trust opportunities or external providers. This includes leadership and management courses, coaching and mentoring, access to degree and master’s modules at local universities, and even a PhD programme to help staff advance and grow.

A team of support behind your career

We understand that learning takes time, so additional study and development opportunities are built into your working day where possible. You’ll be supported by colleagues who are just as invested in your future and success, so you’ll never feel like you’re on your own.

We’ve had great success with our Apprenticeship programme, which offers staff many opportunities to progress their careers. For more detailed information, please visit our apprenticeship page.

No matter where you are on your career journey, you’ll find a welcoming, supportive place here. We believe collaboration is key; working together, sharing ideas, and learning from each other making every day at work a chance to learn, connect, and be your best.

Support Workers

The WeCare programme helps support workers learn and grow in their jobs. It has four parts: induction, Care Certificate training, career development days, and improving clinical skills. The programme makes sure everyone feels valued and confident to give great care.

Supporting newly qualified nurses, midwives, and Allied Health Professionals

Starting your career as a newly qualified nurse, midwife, or allied health professional? Our one-year Preceptorship Programme is here to support you as you step confidently into the workforce.

Guided by the standards set by the NMC and HCPC, this programme ensures you have protected learning time and a dedicated preceptor during your first year. The goal is to help you build the skills, confidence, and independence you need to move from student to professional.

We’re proud to be working towards the Quality Kite Mark for preceptorship, showing our commitment to excellent support.

Throughout the year, you’ll have access to training in clinical skills, leadership, professional advocacy, human factors, quality improvement, ALERT, and many other important areas—giving you a strong foundation to grow your career.

Allied Health Professionals Opportunities

We have eight AHP professional groups working across our three hospital sites in a wide range of clinical settings.

From fine technical skills to broader interpersonal development, we seek to support employees at every point of their professional career. A variety of programmes are offered in-house by our senior leadership team, and we are fortunate to be able to reach out to our long-term external partners to further aid staff development.

No matter which profession you are from, as part of our team the goal will always be to create an environment where training and development is embedded, enabling us to constantly improve patient outcomes and experience.

Medical and Dental Opportunities

We’re committed to supporting doctors on the Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR), offering an alternative route to consultant roles in Emergency Medicine outside the traditional UK training programme. Our team provides guidance through every stage of the competency-based process aligned with GMC and RCEM standards.

We are also deeply invested in medical education. With the opening of the Three Counties Medical School in Worcester, new opportunities are emerging for doctors to contribute as educators, with the potential for honorary academic appointments.

For those interested in research, we’ve launched an ambitious strategy to expand our clinical research activity. Many of our clinicians lead on international trials, supported by a dedicated R&D team and partnerships with academic and commercial organisations.

We also offer a wide range of support for medical staff, including the Guardian of Safe Working, SAS Tutor and Advocate, Appraisal and Revalidation Clinical Lead, LTFT Champion, and SuppoRTT Champion for medics returning to clinical practice following a career break.

Nursing and Midwifery Opportunities

All our nurses and midwifery team receive ongoing support to help them settle into their roles and continue their career path through a range of development and progression opportunities.

We also offer access to Aspiring Leadership programmes, the Band 7 Ward Manager Development programme, continuous professional development, and apprenticeships up to level 7.

We believe in building skills and confidence

All staff complete regular mandatory training to stay up to date and ensure we maintain a safe environment for our patients, colleagues, and the information we care for.

We place a strong emphasis on career development. Through annual appraisals, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on your progress and plan your next steps. Whether it’s apprenticeships, graduate routes, mentoring, or leadership programmes, we’re here to help you move forward.

If you’re looking to continue your learning even further, funding is often available for external courses, including degrees and recognised professional qualifications — helping you shape your future with confidence.
