What to bring

A nurse in uniform on a ward round

You will have a small cupboard beside you bed to keep your belongings.

Top tips for your hospital bag (postnatal ward)

  • Eye mask and Ear plugs.
  • Cool, light pyjamas or lounge wear (the postnatal ward is kept warm so light clothing will help keep you cool).
  • Handheld Fan.
  • Water bottle for easy reach in bed – ice cold water is available on the postnatal ward.
  • Phone/Tablet chargers.
  • Downloaded film/series content – WiFi can be unreliable, so we recommend downloading in advance. Where possible using earbuds to listen will help to reduce noise on the ward.
  • If you have expressed colostrum for your baby – please bring this with you, labelled with a time, date and name. We have both a fridge and freezer on the ward to store this, space is limited so bring in a few syringes and more can be collected from home if required.
  • We would encourage all mothers to give any breastmilk they can to give your baby the best start in life however if you choose to formula feed, you will need to bring in a ready to feed pack with teats. There is no storage or facility to make up feeds on the ward. Any baby that needs formula for a clinical need will be provided with feed.
