Audiology

british tinnitus association corporate member

The Audiology department provides a comprehensive Hearing, Tinnitus and Balance service.

We also provide support to our ENT department providing diagnostic testing as requested.

We undertake clinics for all ages including Domiciliary and ward visits if required.

If you have any hearing concerns regarding yourself or your child, please ask your GP for advice. If required they will refer you directly to our audiology service. You will then be offered an appointment at the nearest and most suitable department for you offering the procedure you require.

We are open most days except Bank Holidays at the following times:

Monday to Friday 8 am to 6pm

An agreed standard of digital hearing aids

Assessment of a patient’s condition within 21 days of receipt of a GP’s referral letter

If a hearing aid is required we will fit it within 28 days of the assessment

Your GP will be advised if you are suitable for AQP adult hearing services.

If your GP decides that you have a more complex problem which does not meet the criteria of AQP, you will be referred to a more senior Audiologist if a hearing aid or more advanced testing is required.

Paediatric testing

Does my child need a hearing test?

Your child may need a hearing test if you have any of these concerns:

• I feel my child doesn't always respond when called or talked to

• My child has had severe earaches and/or several ear infections

• I feel my child's speech isn't progressing

• My child asks for things to be repeated or mishears what is being said

• School or nursery has mentioned they feel he/she isn't hearing well

• My child sits very close to the television and has to have the volume raised

• I have to get their attention before I ask a question

• If I call my child from another room they don't seem to hear me

• I've had a letter from school saying that my child has failed a hearing test

Hearing loss can affect not only a child’s speech and language development, but other areas of their development as well, so it’s vital to get it checked if you are worried. Your GP is your first point of contact – they will decide in consultation with you if you require to be referred to audiology or directly to ENT.
