All Pathology requests should be made on ICE and a completed ICE form sent with samples. Please ensure the correct location is stated on the form.

WAHT staff who require training in use of ICE system should contact ICT training team: [email protected]. Refresher videos can also be found on intranet here: ICE Order Comms

Please see relevant pages for details of information required on samples and request forms. Information on tests available and any specific requirements can be found on our Pathology test A-Z page.

Urgent requests

Requests for truly urgent investigations to be carried out by the Haematology/Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry or Microbiology departments (that wouldn’t usually be processed urgently as standard practice) should be pre-notified to the relevant laboratory. The results to these investigations will be made available as soon as possible.

Add on requests

Occasionally it may be necessary to request further tests either because they were missed or the results indicate further testing is required. We will endeavour to facilitate this if sample is still available and there is enough remaining for the test.

Please contact the relevant department via email or phone. If a verbal request is made for an add on test we also require an ICE request form to be sent in order to maintain accurate and full records

For Biochemistry add-on requests, please see table below for sample stability information:
