Final Memorial

The Gift of Life Memorial Garden which is situated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital has been undergoing upgrade work recently and on Sunday 1 November we held a very small, private memorial service with the Reverend David Southall, to remember the life of Elisabeth Amies who sadly died earlier this year and who also became a donor.

The work at the memorial site included

  • Having a new ‘Rose Sculpture’ added, dedicated to Elisabeth Amies. This incredible sculpture was created by Steve Cooper who is an extremely talented Blacksmith based in Pershore https://stevecooperblacksmith.co.uk/ and who donated his time for free in making this for us.
  • New benches and planters around the memorial and plaques for the garden all of which were very kindly donated and installed by the family of Jake Wells who died in 2014 and who became an organ donor. His sister Ellie, recently spoke to us about their Organ Donation experience – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4qAyDuJG4A

  • Work on the garden, including creating new concrete plinths for the benches to stand on, and planting up new corner plots
    • Our gardeners were Kai Sellers T/A Col Gardens, James Farrell and James Taylor who gave much of their time for free
    • The plants and compost were very kindly donated by:
      • Grange Farm Nurseries, Guarlford Road, Malvern
      • Caves Folly Nurseries, Evendine Lane, Colwall
      • Wykeham Gardens, The Yard at Crowcroft, Leigh Sinton

Our Gift of Life Memorial Garden is a special place, to sit and reflect and remember loved ones who have gone on to help others in need and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has helped create such a special place.

September 2020

We lit up our hospital pink for Organ Donation Week in September to raise awareness of the change in law around Organ Donation.

We also spent time sharing the message with staff to encourage them to have the conversation with their loved ones about their wishes.

We also shared stories from people who have experienced organ donation first-hand.
