The endoscopy team at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre has been presented with a British Citizen Award certificate after being nominated by a patient for their excellent care.

The Kidderminster Hospital Endoscopy team with holding their British Citizen Award certificates, stood with Fred Holland.

Fred Holland from Kidderminster, who has visited the team for care three times in recent months, put them forward for recognition after receiving what he described as ‘exceptional’ treatment.

Mr Holland – who is a British Citizen Awards ambassador for the region due to his tireless fundraising work for Kidderminster Hospital over more than 60 years – presented unit manager Deborah Hathaway and the wider team with their certificates.

He said: “The whole team was fantastic when I had my treatment. I’ve been several times and every time the class of care was exceptional. I wanted to recognise their contribution to the NHS and people of Worcestershire and I am really proud to be able to award them these certificates on behalf of the British Citizen Awards.”

Deborah Hathaway, Endoscopy Unit Manager said: “We were all very grateful to receive this award and it has been a real morale booster. We are a very dedicated hard-working team here at Kidderminster Endoscopy Unit and I’m very proud of everyone.”

The endoscopy team – who carry out tests to look inside the body using a long, thin tube with a small camera inside, called an endoscope – are based at the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre which opened in 2022.

The CDC provides increased access and capacity for the people of Worcestershire to imaging and endoscopy services with the aim of reducing waiting times for patients needing diagnostic scans or endoscopy procedures and aiding a quicker diagnosis and treatment.

Fred Holland started fundraising in 1960. His boundless energy and commitment to Kidderminster Hospital led to the Fred Holland Diabetes Centre being named after him. He has raised over £2 million and is still passionate about the hospital today.
