Family celebrates emotional milestone as son rings end of treatment bell

The Reynolds family celebrated an unforgettable moment on Tuesday (13 January) as their son Reese rang his end of treatment bell, marking the completion of his two-year cancer treatment journey.

Reese was just two years old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in December 2023 and has been receiving care at Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s Paediatric Oncology Clinic.

This milestone represents not only the end of treatment but also the resilience, hope, and strength shown by Reese and his family throughout an incredibly challenging time.

Reese’s parents, Jonathan and Courtney Reynolds expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support they received: “The Worcestershire Paediatric Oncology team have made Reese’s cancer journey so much easier – they feel like family, and we don’t know what we would do without them.

“Through Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity’s specialist fund, The Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer Fund, Reese has been able to access little things like fresh fruit vouchers to bigger things like Christmas pantos. These have helped us make memories and feel more comfortable during our hospital stays.”

No family should face childhood cancer alone, and The Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer Fund – one of Worcestershire Acute Hospital Charity’s specialist funds – plays a vital role in supporting families like the Reynolds. From bravery boxes and holiday celebrations, to activity days and fresh fruit vouchers, these thoughtful touches have brought comfort and joy during hospital visits.

To give back, Jonathan and Courtney took part in the Worcester City Run last September, raising £350 for the charity’s specialist fund, The Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer Fund.

Laura Gregory, Community and Events Fundraising Officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “It was an honour to support Courtney and Jonathan, who quite literally went the extra mile to raise funds for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity after experiencing first-hand the meaningful difference donations to The Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer Fund make to children and families on their cancer journey.”

As Reese rang the bell, the room was filled with cheers and smiles – a powerful symbol of hope and the brighter days ahead. The Reynolds family’s journey is a testament to the incredible care provided by the hospital team and the generosity of the local community.
