Mr Mirza was appointed consultant at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre from 2008 to 2012 where he was running a tertiary level medical retina service and was lead consultant for eye casualty and primary care ophthalmology. He was involved in setting up the medical retina service at Alexandra Hospital. His areas of interest include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and other retinal /macular diseases. He is focused on training and teaching medical students, optometrists, other medical colleagues and nurse practitioners. He is senior academy tutor for University of Birmingham fourth year medical students. He was involved in training nurse practitioners to perform intravitreal injections and AMD follow up clinics including setting up virtual clinics. He was involved in setting up outpatient injection room services in the Trust. He is also interested in research into macular diseases having completed two research trials since joining this Trust.
