I qualified from Cambridge University with an MD thesis in Immunology and have a particular interest in the immune response of the chronic viral infections of HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. I have built up close links with primary care and public health to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of these infections. I lead a busy clinical infectious diseases service across Worcestershire and Herefordshire using a network of clinical nurse specialists we run a community outreach model and have been highly successful in treating large numbers of patients with viral hepatitis. I work closely with my secondary care specialists bringing expertise in the management of infection across all disciplines. We run an evolving outpatient parenteral antibiotic service to allow for earlier discharge of complex infections.

We promote early access to our specialist clinics, particularly to avoid admissions and can be contacted for advice by healthcare professionals through our dedicated infectious diseases email address wah-tr.idreferrals@nhs.net

I have a strong interest in Medical Education and have been appointed the Director of Medical Education for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. We are building a multi-professional education team with close ties to Birmingham University, Warwick University and Worcester University. Previously I was Head of the Undergraduate Teaching Academy for Worcestershire. I hold an honorary senior clinical lectureship with Birmingham University. I am the past President of the West Midlands Physicians’ Association.
