Matt Edmunds is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in Oculoplastic (eyelid), Lacrimal (tear system) and Orbital (eye socket) disease. He graduated from the University of Birmingham with Honours in 2002 and trained in emergency and general medicine in Auckland, New Zealand and Nottingham, UK (2003 – 2006). He undertook comprehensive training in all aspects of Ophthalmology in the West Midlands Deanery (2006 – 2017), including three years as a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham.

In 2013 he gained a PhD for his research into Thyroid Eye Disease (also known as Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy or Graves’ Orbitopathy). Advanced subspecialist and fellowship training in Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital disease was gained at Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (2016 – 2017), University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff (2017 – 2018) and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (2018 – 2019).
