We have a number of Band 6 roles available across a range of specialities including Medicine, Stroke, Trauma and Elective Orthopaedics, and rotational posts.

Our Occupational Therapy service offers a range of development opportunities for our Band 6 OTs including a ‘Novice to Expert’ role development programme, leadership opportunities, observing Senior Team Lead Meetings, and access to an increasing range of bespoke training.

    This post focusses on providing acute assessments to Trauma patients; this involves a mixture of upper and lower limb fractures, traumatic head injury and poly trauma cases.

    One of our service's top priorities is nurturing the next generation of leaders and supporting all those with the capability and ambition to reach the most senior levels of the service.

    This post will allow us to play an essential role through creative leadership and practice, by delivering modernised Occupational Therapy and developing solutions for effective patient flow.

    We are looking for highly motivated practitioners that will be able to demonstrate safe, patient-centred approach to care, underpinned by sound clinical knowledge in evidence-based assessment and management of a variety of Trauma conditions.

    Within the Trauma Unit you'll be working with and supported by a very skilled workforce and work within a multi-professional environment.

    You will be nurtured and developed by a Band 7 Clinical Specialist and 8a Trauma, Orthopaedic and Surgical Clinical Strategic Lead.

    We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist in our Acute Medicine Team at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

    This post will be suited to an experienced Band 5 or existing Band 6 with a varied clinical portfolio including management of a variety of conditions, assessment of cognition, moving and handling skills, complex discharge planning, and awareness of the Mental Capacity Act and its impact on patient decision making.

    As a service, our Medicine OTs provide support to Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Cardiology and General Medical wards and as such you will assess and treat a wide range of patients with varying medical needs.

    The ideal candidate should be looking to enhance and modernise their practice to support the increasing acuity and complexity of our patients and to develop their skills in the assessment and management of a wide range of patients with varying medical needs.

    You will be part of a dynamic and supportive OT team consisting of Band 7 Clinical Specialist OTs, Band 6 Senior OTs, Rotational Band 5 OTs, Band 4 OT Assistant Practitioners, and Band 3 OT Assistants.

    The role is predominantly based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, however there is a requirement for cross-site working at times and as such you must be able to meet the travel requirements of the post.

    We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist in our Pathway Discharge Unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

    This post will be suited to an experienced Band 5 or a Band 6 who wishes to consolidate and specialise and is passionate about Acute Rehabilitation and the opportunity to do Community Outreach.

    The Pathway Discharge Unit is a 21 bedded area to accommodate patients across medical and surgical wards who have been deemed medically fit (i.e. no longer requiring in-patient acute clinical care and treatment).

    You will work very closely with a Band 5 OT and Band 4 OT Assistant Practitioner to provide new or ongoing OT assessment and interventions for these patients to ensure that functional decline does not occur. You will offer a programme of acute rehabilitation, so an exciting patient focused approach.

    This will be a fantastic opportunity to start to develop as a clinical leader and develop and manage a small team in a dedicated area.

    You will experience a range of clinical conditions from Trauma, Surgery to Medicine. As well as providing acute rehabilitation you will develop skills in more specialist manual handling, cognitive assessment and management, Mental Capacity and complex discharge management.

    We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Band 6 Older Persons and Complex Discharge Occupational Therapist in our Acute Medicine Team at Alexandra Hospital.

    This role would be suited to an experienced Band 5 or existing Band 6 OT with a varied portfolio spanning both physical and Mental Health settings.

    The ideal candidate will have experience in the assessment and management of older adults with complex needs such as cognition, dementia, complex manual handling needs, palliative and end-of-life care and Frailty, and providing advice and support to our MDT colleagues to maximise patients' potential.

    Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and its impact on the patient’s decision-making skills is essential to this role.

    You will be part of a dynamic and supportive OT team consisting of Band 7 Clinical Specialist OTs, Band 6 Senior OTs, Rotational Band 5 OTs, Band 4 OT Assistant Practitioners, and Band 3 OT Assistants.

    We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Band 6 Rotational Neurological Senior Occupational Therapist at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

    Would you like a career in Neurology and to specialise and develop in the areas of Acute Stroke, Complex Care, Acute Neurorehabilitation as well Neuro-Outpatients? Then we have a fantastic Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist opportunity for you at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

    These posts would be suited to Band 5s with some post-graduate neurology rotational experience, or novice Band 6s looking to specialise in these wonderful and rewarding areas.

    The potential candidates would be supported and developed through our Novice to Expert career framework. This is a framework that offers a clear demarcation between the expectations for a novice Band 6 OT and someone who is meeting the expectations and carrying out the responsibilities of an experienced Band 6 OT.

    You will be part of the monthly Neuro in-service training programme and a new MDT Therapy Stroke Training programme with the Community Stroke Team and Evesham Community Hospital.

    You will be supported to attend a variety of training, including:

    • Introduction to Bobath
    • Splinting in Neurology
    • Braintree Cognitive Package
    • Posture and Seating

    We would also be happy to support your first annual membership fee with the RCOT Specialist Section for Neurological Practice.

    We have developed a NEW Band 6 Rotational Programme.

    We have taken the time to look at which clinical services we have to offer that can host these rotations and will develop the new Band 6 post holders using our Novice to Expert career framework.    

    This is a framework that has been specifically designed to recognise that staff new to Band 6 roles will need a period of consolidation. It offers a clear demarcation between the expectations for a novice Band 6 OT and someone who is meeting the expectations and carrying out the responsibilities of an experienced Band 6 OT.

    You will be working with and supported by a very experienced skilled workforce. These include our Clinical Strategic Lead OTs and Clinical Specialists.

    The aim of this multiple rotational programme will be to provide excellent learning opportunities. You will also be supported to attend the following training:

    • Care Aims – this provides a strong clinical reasoning and decision framework
    • Coaching
    • Mentoring
    • Masters Modules

    These will be 12-month Rotations, based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Alexandra Hospital and will offer clinical experience in the following areas:

    • Specialty Medicine – Develop a clinical portfolio that evidences a high level of acute illness management; manual handling assessment and management; extensive equipment knowledge and provision; cognitive assessment and application to occupational performance; end-of-life and palliative care management, as well as complex discharge management.
    • Stroke and Neurology – Develop specialist skills knowledge and experience of hyper-acute and acute stroke, complex care, and outpatient stroke and neurology. This will also include experience in Critical Care.
    • Trauma – Focus on providing acute assessments of Trauma patients. This involves a variety of upper and lower limb fractures, traumatic head injury and poly trauma cases.
    • Elective Orthopaedics – Focus on providing assessments of Elective Orthopaedic patients, including total hip and knee replacements and complex lower and upper limb surgery. The variety of assessments facilitates compliance of post-surgery guidelines and to maximise functional independence.

    You will gain mentorship and support from the Occupational Therapy Clinical Strategic Leads, and Clinical Specialists across the specialities.

    The post holder will be expected to contribute to Bank Holiday and seven-day working to ensure effective clinical delivery.

Worcestershire Royal Hospital small

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute and specialised hospital trust, providing care and treatment from three main sites – the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, and Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

We deliver a wide range of services to a population of nearly 600,000 people in Worcestershire as well as more specialised services to a larger population in Herefordshire and beyond.

Our location

Worcestershire is a largely rural county, with four main towns – Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Redditch and Worcester – lying between the Cotswolds, the Welsh border and Birmingham. There are four further substantial market towns, Droitwich, Evesham, Malvern and Pershore.

There are a number of high-quality schools across the county and the major motorway network of the M42, M5 and M6 provide excellent links to the rest of the West Midlands and beyond. Local leisure facilities are well developed and the area has easy access to Birmingham and the South West.
