Our Virtual Fracture Clinic is a safe and effective way of examining your injury by reviewing your X-ray results and the initial assessment from the Emergency Department (A&E). This will be done within 72 hours of your visit to the Emergency Department.

The assessment and test results from when you attended the Emergency Department or Minor Injury Unit will be reviewed by a senior orthopaedic doctor who will come up with a plan of care for your injury.

Depending on the outcome of the virtual consultation, our Virtual Fracture Clinic co-ordinator will contact you by phone to discuss your treatment plan or provide advice. This is why it is very important for you to ensure the telephone number we have for you is up to date. It is most likely that you will be called between 9.30am and 3pm.

There are three possible outcomes following this discussion:

  1. You may be asked to come to the hospital for a new face-to-face appointment to review your fracture or injury within 48 hours.
  2. You may be asked to attend a follow-up trauma clinic appointment to review your injury, usually between 7 and 14 days.
  3. You may be discharged from the clinic, in this case our Virtual Fracture Clinic co-ordinator will contact you to explain this and offer advice.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or queries regarding your care on:

Our working hours are between 7am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, but we have an answerphone that’s checked daily during working hours. If it is more urgent or over the weekend, please contact your local Minor Injuries Unit or Emergency Department.
