Fourteen talented apprentices at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust are celebrating after being presented with Apprenticeship Achievement Awards at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association’s Annual Apprentice Awards at Sixways Stadium. These awards recognise the outstanding dedication and commitment of all apprentices.

Special Commendation Awards were handed to: Kodi Pritchard, finalist in the Commerce Apprentice of the Year; Joanna Davis and Helen Mills, both finalists in the Management Apprentice of the Year; and Jen Wood, who was announced winner of the Management Apprentice of the Year.

Jen, a Senior Sister in the Alexandra Hospital’s Emergency department, said: “Working in the Trust and having access to this management apprenticeship has been fantastic. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved, it’s benefitted me enormously. I feel so much more confident in my role and I know I’m a better leader for it.

“Having just been appointed Senior Sister, I had no formal managerial or leadership training. I undertook the apprenticeship to get a better understanding of how to manage and lead appropriately.  It’s certainly given me a lot more confidence in my role, knowing that I’ve got the training and knowledge behind me to lead my team.”

The Trust is delighted to see so many apprentices receiving recognition for their outstanding performance. Libby Marshall, Apprenticeship Lead at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Through the Trust’s apprenticeship programme, we not only give people the opportunity to take the first steps in their career with the NHS, but it also enables our own staff the opportunity to develop their skills. We offer many apprenticeships including Management and Leadership courses.

“We are committed to bringing more young people and adult learners into our workforce. The apprenticeship programme is a great way to earn as you learn and access Higher Education and Undergraduate programmes. It’s wonderful to see so many apprentices who are now fully qualified successfully working in positions across the Trust.”

There are currently six levels of apprenticeships available at the Trust from Intermediate Level 2 all the way to Level 7 covering a huge range of roles including both clinical and non-clinical areas.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, 6th – 12th February, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has a number of events planned to showcase the apprenticeship opportunities available including: Tuesday 7th February at the new Careers Worcestershire Youth Hub at the Hive 11.00-14.00; Main Foyer of Evesham Community Hospital 11.00-13.30; Wednesday 8th February Kidderminster Treatment Centre Foyer 11.30-13.30; and Moving Forward Community Hub in Droitwich 13:00-16:00; Friday 10th  February outside Rivercourt Restaurant at Worcestershire Royal Hospital 11.00-13.30.
