Face-to-face appointments

What to bring with you?

  • Your appointment letter
  • The medication you are currently taking (or a list of it)
  • Any relevant family medical history
  • A list of any allergies you suffer from
  • Any care plans if you are coming from a nursing or care home
  • An awareness of any relevant previous medical history and your Immunisation history

What might happen at your appointment?

Many appointments will result in a conversation between you and your clinician to agree on the next step. However, sometimes procedures can be undertaken in the clinic at short notice which may require a detailed examination. Should you feel that you are not prepared to undergo any procedure, please discuss this with the clinician to arrange a more suitable date and time for this.

Blood tests or X-rays may also have to be undertaken during your hospital appointment. This could result in you spending longer at the hospital than you anticipated.

If the clinician prescribes you with a new or different medication, they will write to your GP or give you a prescription to take to the hospital pharmacy or to your local chemist. The standard national prescription fee will be charged unless you do not pay charges for this. If you receive free prescriptions, you need to bring proof of your exemption with you.

When you leave your appointment you must return to the department reception desk and handover any paperwork given to you by the clinician or nursing team. This will ensure that your health record is updated, and you can choose a date and time for your next appointment that is convenient for you.
