We are above all the representatives of our patients. We aim to exceed their expectations every time by continuously improving the quality and the value of the care we give immediately before, during and following surgery.

We believe that every patient undergoing surgery is a unique individual who has entrusted their safety, dignity and wellbeing into our care. Through technological resources and the skill and expertise of the theatre personnel, it is our aim to provide the best possible care according to the individual needs of every patient. This is from arrival at the theatre doors through to the anaesthetic room, theatre itself and recovery ward.

We provide a range of surgery from day case diagnostic procedures to emergency surgery.

It is routinely likely that you will be asked to arrive on the morning of your surgery and you will be met in TAU (Theatre Admissions Unit) or a nominated ward base. Wherever you come to, you will be greeted by the departmental administration team and advised where to be and who you will meet.

You will be asked numerous questions to verify your identity and the planned procedure to be undertaken. Your team will meet you to ask you about your current health and to discuss any concerns in preparation for surgery. This enables our checks to be carried out ensuring your safety whilst in our care and allows us to provide the optimum care for your individual needs.  They will be happy to explain your procedure or answer any questions you may have.

Most patients, if they are able to, will walk to the anaesthetic room with a member of staff but a wheelchair or trolley is also available to those who need them.

In the anaesthetic room you will be greeted by a theatre anaesthetic practitioner and your anaesthetist. They will do all they can to put you at you ease whilst preparing you for your anaesthetic.

Your surgery will be carried out in the main theatre by your consultant and the team of theatre staff using strict protocols to ensure that infection control procedures and your safety is maintained throughout.

Following your surgery you will be cared for by our recovery nurses in our dedicated recovery areas. They will help you manage any pain or discomfort and ensure that you are sufficiently recovered from your anaesthetic to return to the ward or discharge team.
