Below is the training offered by the Quality Improvement Faculty:

E-learning:

An Introduction to Quality Improvement is now available on ESR.  Search for “Bronze Quality Improvement”.  No certificate is provided for this training although a record is held on ESR.

An introduction to Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign (QI fundamentals, Bronze Level):

This is a two-hour virtual training session (using MS Teams).  This interactive virtual training is open to anyone who would like an introduction to Quality Improvement.  There are 30 places available on each session.

What are the session objectives?

  • To understand QI
  • To be aware of the steps to take when undertaking QI
  • To be aware of some commonly used QI tools and techniques
  • To know where to find QI resources and support
  • To give an insight into other QI training available
  • To be inspired to use the “science of QI” to increase the likelihood of sustained improvement

Who is the training suitable for? This training is suitable for all employees from WAHT, partner organisations, volunteers and invited patient representatives / service users

What do I need?  You need no experience in QI to attend. You will need to be able to access MS Teams using a device with a camera.  Please bring a pen and paper to the virtual session. 


Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign Virtual training (QSIR V Silver Level):

QSIR V (for Virtual) is an interactive improvement programme for those undertaking a specific improvement project and who already have an awareness of quality improvement.  There are 10 places available to WAHT employees for each cohort.

This interactive virtual training programme consists of 8 virtual webinars lasting 60 minutes in length with 15 minutes set up and wind down at either side. 

In addition, delegates will attend at least 2 of the 4 facilitated QSIR Café sessions.  The QSIR Café sessions are designed to continue the learning beyond the 60-minute module, to ensure project evidence is uploaded into the improvement tracker and to offer QI coaching.

On completion of all 8 webinars and the 2 QSIR café sessions, delegates will attend a Graduation session (virtual) which allows delegates to share their improvement journey, describe their progress and formally complete the programme. Certificates will be available on request and Graduation will be recorded on ESR.

How to book?  To express an interest in the Silver level QSIR course, please register your improvement work / project using the link below. Please select QSIR V when prompted on the registration page.  Once your project has been approved, you can request a place on the next cohort by completing the application form and sending to the training team on: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  stating the course start date that you would like to be booked onto.  The training team will liaise with the QI training provider (WVT) who will send you the confirmation of acceptance and joining instructions within 10 working days.

Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign Practitioner Training (QSIR Gold level):

The Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) Practitioner programme is a five-day accredited NHS programme delivered over a period of 3 months in a classroom setting.

How to book?  To express an interest in the QSIR Practitioner course, please register your selected improvement project using the link below….. Please select QSIR Practitioner course when prompted.  The QI team will liaise with you and the Divisional Directors, who will nominate individuals for each QSIR cohort.  Applicants will be required to complete a QSIR application form prior to attending.

Who is this suitable for?  If you are regularly involved in, or managing, improvement projects this programme will meet your needs. Applicants must have already undertaken bronze / silver QI training (or similar) or be nominated by the Division.  Applicants must be willing to become Divisional QI advisors and, therefore, will be expected to run bronze level virtual QSIR training sessions (alongside a member of the QI Faculty).

What is the programme objective?  The 5 training days are delivered over 3 months allowing you to take away the tools and techniques that you are taught and put them into practice.  If you would like more information, please contact the QI team on This email address is being protected from spambots. What to expect?  The programme is delivered off site and attracts health and social care professionals from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, offering lots of opportunity for networking with colleagues undertaking similar projects.  There is a £150 fee for the programme and each participant is required to produce a post programme case study.


Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign Faculty Associate (QSIR Gold Plus)

This level of training will allow QSIR Practitioners to become part of the QSIR Faculty.  The programme involves assessment, workshops and webinars.  Following completion of the assessments, you will be expected to teach on the STP QSIR practitioner programme (Gold level).

QI coaching

A QI coach is someone with Quality Improvement knowledge who can guide and coach others with their improvement journey. A QI coach serves as facilitator, aiming to move each team/member further along in confidence, skill and knowledge of QI to help implement their QI programmes/projects. QI coaching includes many components including teaching, facilitating, advising, mentoring, advocating and signposting. Each coach, armed with a set of core skills has a unique style but each coach applies the same basic principles.
