Local family donate toys worth £200 to children’s ward

A local family has donated £200 worth of toys for Riverbank children’s ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Darren Wilding and his wife Laura raised the money to give something back for the care that their twin sons, Ethan and Thomas had received on the ward during various visits to Worcestershire Royal Hospital during the first year of their lives.

The Wilding’s donated toys, board games and other craft and play materials to the Riverbank ward where Ethan and Thomas visited four times in their first six months, having been born prematurely.

Darren ran the Birmingham Half Marathon in October and took to social media to raise the money, receiving donations from family, friends and more via the internet. He said: “We really felt like we wanted to give something back for the care Ethan and Thomas have received here on the ward.

“I want to try and make a difference because I have seen first-hand what it is like to have your children in hospital and we thought that this little donation to help.

“The staff on the ward are excellent and you can’t underestimate the work done here every day. You can see the children’s eyes light up at the tireless, thankless work that the staff here do.”

Joy Powell, Play Specialist who works on Riverbank Ward said: “We’re always very grateful when we receive such a kind donation as this. The Wilding’s have been very generous and their donation will help improve the experience of many children who come to the ward.”

Darren said plans to raise more funds for the ward in the future and hopes to run a marathon next year.
