Local theatre company go the Full Monty for prostate cancer charities

A production of the musical Full Monty by the Alcester Musical Theatre Company has raised £1400 for prostate cancer charities.

Proceeds from the musical adaption’s week at the Palace Theatre in Redditch, 7 to 11 October 2014, were split between Worcestershire’s surgical robot (Rory the Robot) campaign and Prostate Cancer UK.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s Rory the Robot appeal aims to raise £1.6 million for a surgical robot to treat patients with prostate cancer across the county. With Rory's assistance, patients will benefit from less pain, minimal blood loss and reduced complications.

Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life.

The theatre company sold programmes and calendars at their shows and shook buckets after each performance for an extra boost to the cause.

Hugh Duck, who plays Jerry in the show said “Normally we don’t get a chance to see the audience after the show. They were very enthusiastic to come and meet us, lots of photos were taken. They were all more than happy to donate to the causes, they were very supportive.”

David Hill, member of the theatre company and Chief Radiographer at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said “Prostate cancer is the most common cause of cancer in men, so we felt these charities were very fitting for such a show. Working at the Alexandra Hospital, the Rory the Robot campaign is close to my heart. It was great to be able to fundraise in such an entertaining way!”

This production of The Full Monty will be the third time the theatre company has presented the show. It was first staged in 2010 where it received standing ovations - and was brought back to the stage at the end of last year due to public demand.
