New exercise classes available to hospital staff thanks to generous League of Friends donation

The physiotherapy department at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch have benefitted from the generous work of the hospitals League of Friends.  The League of friends kindly donated £790 worth of funding in order to purchase new gym equipment for the department.

The equipment varies from a new Squat rack to an Olympic barbell kit and offers specialist rehabilitation to a variety of patients.  The new equipment will also be available for a new staff exercise class that started at the beginning of October.

The new exercise class will give employees access to an onsite health and fitness class on a weekly basis for those who struggle to fit gym classes around their shift patterns. Through the introduction of these new classes the physiotherapy team are hoping to see a reduction in any staff sickness or prolonged injuries, as they can offer advice and exercises to staff.

Senior Physiotherapist, Hanne Brown said: “In the department we are aware how difficult it can be to find time to exercise - especially if you work shifts and have a young family - and we recognised as a health provider we should be looking after our own colleagues’ health as well as our patients.”

4ward is our Trustwide culture change programme which is helping us build a more positive, supportive workplace for the benefit of our patients and colleagues. At its heart are our four 4ward Behaviours.
