Hospital administrator organises charity day to raise money for Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust

A ward administrator from Worcestershire Royal Hospital is taking on a 10 mile walk and hosting a charity evening to raise money for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust

Ward administrator Jolene Patrick, 32, has decided to embark on the fundraising challenge following her mother, Pat’s recent admission to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.  Pat has battled with the disease since her diagnosis back in 2015 and as well as raising money for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust the family want to raise awareness of the disease and the support available.

The 10 mile walk takes place on Saturday 12 October and will see Jolene joined by a group of family, friends and colleagues as they walk from Worcestershire Royal Hospital to Stoke Prior sports club. The walk will then be followed by a charity evening that includes an auction, disco and much more as Jolene tries to reach her £500 target

Pulmonary Fibrosis is a life-limiting lung disease caused by scarring of the lungs and causes the lungs to become stiffer and the transfer of oxygen from lungs to the body becomes more difficult.

Jolene said: “Before moms illness we didn't know a thing about this awful condition and I think many others still don't. As a family we want to raise awareness so that other families know that actually it’s not that rare and there is support available”

Since Pat’s most recent admission her condition has deteriorated and she has now been added on to palliative care. However Jolene added “Mom was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2015 and since had many admissions to Worcestershire Royal.  The staff have been fantastic with mum and our family offering support and providing such excellent care.”
