Important changes to access – A&E, Medical Assessment Unit and Observation

In order to continue with the development of the Emergency Department expansion there will be some important changes to how you will physically access A&E, MAU and Obs from Tuesday 5 January 2016.

The main changes are as follows:

  • The old A&E entrance will be closed and the new A&E entrance opened. This is located next to where the old entrance was and is clearly signposted (the new A&E entrance is about 10 metres to the right of the existing one).
  • The car drop off area for A&E will now be opposite the ambulance bay. This will continue to be a free drop off area with a maximum 20 minute stay
  • The external entrance to the MAU will be closed. For access to MAU on or after 5 January you will have to enter via A&E and then follow the signs to MAU.
  • The external entrance to Observation will also be closed. To access Obs on or after the 5 January you will have to enter via A&E and then follow the signs to Observation.

To ensure patient and staff safety the pedestrian crossing will be moved so that it aligns with the new A&E entrance.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but it is an essential disruption in order to continue with the expansion.
